The legendary Martin Shaw makes a welcome return to the stage as Sir Thomas More, Henry VII's doomed Lord Chancellor in Robert Bolt's riveting drama, directed by Jonathan Church. One for fans of Wolf Hall, this enduring exploration of politics, religion, and power charts More's rise in the Tudor court, to his ultimate demise in defense of his convictions.
In the early 1530's the Tudor Court is in turmoil. The king, Henry VII, had grown tired of his wife, Catherine of Aragon, and the young Anne Boleyn has captured his attention. To legitimise the match, he must divorce Catherine, a choice that scandalises the Catholic church. Despite much advice to the contrary, Henry decides to do something that will change the country forever. As a friend and advisor to the king, Sir Thomas More is forced to choose between his loyalty and his own conscience, leading to an act of defiance, the conclusion of which will echo through the centuries.
